You’ve got your hopeless romantics, who watched the Royal Wedding to see a glimpse of fairy tale come to life, and those who were interested to see who was in attendance, but what I was most interested in was what these real-life royals were wearing! Probably one of the best things about English propriety, is their great respect to head-gear. I don’t think anyone didn’t have an amazing hat or fascinator, which is not quite a hat – more an extravagant headpiece. So let’s take a look at what everyone was wearing, starting with Kate’s sister Pippa:
My first reaction was – GASP, the sister wore WHITE?? But then I sat back and thought, if I am about to marry a man who will potentially be KING OF ENGLAND, it’s the LEAST I can do to let my baby sister wear a stunning Sarah Burton (from Alexander McQueen) gown that puts most US brides to shame. Sarah Burton also designed Kate’s dress! But this dress was stunning and slinky and form-fitting. If she’s looking for a royal chap of her own, something tells me they took notice at yesterday’s events!
You can’t have a fashion recap, especially not a UK fashion recap with the reigning King and Queen of English celebrity, David and Victoria Beckham, my beloved Posh and Becks. They’re currently expecting their third bundle of joy, rumor is Victoria really wants a little girl. So she traded in her usual body hugging gowns for an amazing shift dress, stunning fascinator and her usual sky high Louboutin platforms. Stunning guys!
Socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson showed up in head to toe royal blue, with an amazing structured fascinator. Her outfit came under debate, but I think she looks stunning! The shoes are fierce too! Have to point out the flower fascinator going on right behind her! I think I’m having a mandatory hat rule at my wedding!
So I have to admit, when I first glanced at these sisters, I thought, who invited the Girls Next Door?? Well I’ve got good news, these are the Spencer sisters, Lady Kitty, Lady Amelia and Eliza, are just as fun loving! Don’t they just look it? But controversy or not, these girls head pieces are beautiful!
Lady Frederick Windsor wore navy, and her hat reminds me of part of a solar system exhibit, or something I’ve actually seen at Easter Sunday service.
Every event has to have a few eyebrow raises, and Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie gave us just that. With the bows, prints, flowers, plumes, and something that looks like you could get at a Disney Parade, these girls could have used a few tips from their country-woman Posh on how understated elegance is sometimes the best route. Better luck next time gals!
So that’s my fashion recap, and if you’re obsessed with hats now like I am, we’ve got the Kentucky Derby to look forward to this Spring, and there we can most definitely expect Hef and a Bunny or two!
