My Summer Boots

See how I paired my summer boots on our recent  trip to Vegas:

I paired by brown slouchy Steve Madden cowboy boots (that I’ve had and been wearing for like 4 years) with this black silk belted shirtdress by Joie and some black vintage aviators.

BCBG Booties

As a sidebar, this shirtdress travels amazingly. If you are trying to pack light, this is a great option  on a trip because it’s versatile and you can wear it so many ways. I also packed these BCBG bootie style shoes to wear it as an evening look, and it looked just as appropriate.

As far as my summer boots look, this look is sometimes questioned.

I recently saw a fashionable friend tweet :

“I gotta go get a pair of cute summer boots…” Shoutout to @chinabowls!

And I’m sure some people were thinking, if not replying “ummm summer boots? Is that not an oxy-moron?”

But I’m writing this post to tell you it’s absolutely not! People are always so skeptical about the idea of boots in the summer, perhaps because of the misconception that boots keep your feet warm. As a person who has (in her youth, don’t judge me) owned numerous pairs of Timberlands, I can assure you these boots do absolutely nothing to keep you warm in the winter, or make you overly hot in the summer. The only boots that have ever made me noticeably warm in the winter are shearling lined, and needless to say, are not, by definition “summer boots.”

So what are summer boots, then? There are many styles of boots, but I’d say that as a general rule, boots that can be worn in summer are flat to low heel boots, mid to low shaft height, and leather. The leather part is important because leather is the most breathable material. You don’t want to be out on a hot summer day in a closed boot made out of “man-made materials” unless u enjoy wading in a puddle of sweat in your shoes.

The styles that I think are best for summer right now are:

Lace up "Granny" Booties!

The Lace-up “Granny” style,  The Equestrian, The Moccasin and of course my signature Cowboy Boots.

Mid Moccasin

These options are great for summer barbeques and trips to the park because you don’t have to worry about getting your feet dirty in sandals. I also find that they look way better with summer clothes than winter clothes.

High Moccasins

As you can see I love my boots for summer!
